Technology Information for Online Courses

Taking Online Classes for Students with Disabilities

We appreciate your flexibility during this novel and challenging time, and recognize that this may be the first time some of you are participating in online courses. We have developed information below about some of the most commonly used technologies and questions related to assistive/adaptive technologies as Rutgers in an online environment during COVID-19 spring semester 2021 courses. This is not meant to be an exhaustive list.

Important: Be familiar with the most up-to-date COVID-19 information being provided by the university, as well as guidance from your school or unit. View the latest Rutgers announcements.

We ask that everyone be as flexible as possible as these nuances are worked out. Please review the information we have developed about spring 2021 accommodation needs and resources, and don’t hesitate to reach out to your ODS Coordinator with any questions or concerns. If you are an RBHS student, your coordinator is the Director of Disability

General technology questions, concerns or issues in the online environment.

The technology resources page for Rutgers students has the latest updates and information about videoconferencing, learning management systems, test proctoring systems, and getting help with technology services and systems.  If any student, including those with disabilities have general technology or learning management system  (Canvas or Sakai) related questions, not related to their disability, the fastest method of obtaining answers is to reach out to the Office of Information Technology Help Desk

Concerns or issues with my assistive technology (technology related to my disability such as screen readers, captioning, Kurzweil, Read and Write Gold, text reader, calculator etc.,)L

If a student with a disability has questions, concerns, or issues related to their assistive or adaptive technologies, they should schedule a RADR Support Call with Rutgers Access and Disability Resources.  You may also send us an email at: Radr@echo.rutgers.edu.  At this high volume time, our Rutgers Access and Disability Resources team will be in touch as soon as possible.

In addition, students with disabilities can contact their ODS Coordinator who can assist in answering questions.  However, the RADR Support Call and the Radr@echo.rutgers.edu is the best method that we have in tracking and expediting assistive or adaptive technology needs for students with disabilities.
